About 
Lorenza Kaib

Initially I studied photography (BA) at the Folkwang University of the Arts and then delved into contemporary and modern art history (MA) at the Ruhr University Bochum. Apart from research trips and project work in various locations, my home base is the Ruhr area. I work as a freelance curator, photographer and lecturer.

Since 2024, I have been a lecturer at the Folkwang University of the Arts, where I develops the Orbit exhibition series with students and graduates of the university. The exhibition space of the same name I established together with Prof. Elke Seeger and Larissa Zauser.

Curatorial Statement

My curatorial work exists in the tension between research and resonance, between structure and instinct. I seek new forms of interaction — spaces of possibility where art, discourse, and community intertwine. I am particularly interested in collaborative forms of curatorial practice. Art in public spaces, as well as questions of access, participation, and the dismantling of barriers, have accompanied and engaged me for over ten years. Making the polyphony of our pluralistic society visible, breaking down rigid narratives, and creating spaces in between are what drives me.

    rooted in change!
    Vilma Klingaite and I are curating a group exhibition that will be on view in September 2026 at Artists Unlimited Bielefeld and in the public space. The exhibition “verwurzelt? rooted in change!” focuses on the ways in which people are connected to their living environments from an open perspective. Rooting is conceived as social, communicative, and ecological, rather than tied to a specific place.

    Solastalgia · Waldbaden mit Plastikdelfin
    How do reports about climate change affect us? Against fatalism or resignation, the exhibition focuses on creating new worlds, thoughtfully and calmly observing with a touch of humor. Featuring works by Sophia Süßmilch, Jenny Schäfer, and Jessica Arseneau. Curated by Lorenza Kaib, 2026 curatorial fellow at Künstlerhaus Lukas. On view at Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop from June 7 to August 31, 2026.
  • Orbit VII–IX
    In the winter of 2025/2026, works by Julia Jaksch, Ludwig Kuffer, Max Beck and Saskia Fischer were shown alongside those of students from the Folkwang University of the Arts in three exhibitions. All of the exhibitions shown here took place at the Orbit off space on the grounds of UNESCO World Heritage Site Zeche Zollverein.
  • Orbit IV–VI
    The artistic tandems continued in the summer of 2025: in the former Schalthaus 2.0 building on the grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein, Shaft XII, former photography students from the Folkwang University of the Arts once again presented their work together with current students. Three exhibitions offered thematically and visually diverse perspectives, with the space being used, transformed, or even reworked in a specific way for each exhibition.

    The summer exhibitions were preceded by two application phases. First, an open call was published, inviting photography graduates to apply for the exhibition format. After the jury selected three artists, photography students could then apply, and the artistic tandems were formed.
  • Orbit I–III
    The former switchgear building 2.0 on the grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein, Shaft XII, will be used as an experimental space for exhibitions, events, and meetings of the Design Department of the Folkwang University of the Arts starting in the winter semester of 2024/2025. Former photography students of the Folkwang University of the Arts will present their artistic positions in dialogue with current student work.
